Your local Audubon strives to bring people back to nature, through interesting and inspiring field trips throughout the year, many inspiring and educational programs, local bird counts, Squaw Creek work days, Eagle Days. Audubon is so much more than a birding club. With a diverstiy of members who offer a wealth of knowledge in many fields, from envirnomental issues, to wildlife education, wildflower identification, recycling concerns, youth involvement and education, habitat restoration and bluebird trails...just to name a few.

Eastern BluebirdThe Midland Empire Audubon Society, established in 1986, is a chapter of the National Audubon Society. This new chapter evolved from the 43 yearold St. Joseph Audubon Society, founded by the late Simon Rositzky, and now has a nine county territory in Northwest MO: Andrew, Atchison, Buchanan, Clinton, DeKalb, Gentry, Holt, Nodaway, and Worth. David Mead and Mike were MEA's first president and vice-president. They were instrumental in moving the chapter forward by writing our first constitution in the summer of 1986.
Mission Statement of MEA's
The Midland Empire Audubon Society's purposes are to promote conservation and wise use of wildlife, habitat, and other natural resources. To support measures to control pollution. To speak on behalf of the "Audubon Cause" in the use of public lands. To encourage wise use of energy. To cooperate with other appropriate conservation organizations.

This mission will be met by participating in research that monitors and conducts nature study. By keeping abreast of conservation and environmental issues, and offering solutions. by sponsoring nature classes, programs,and field trips, to help develop public awareness concerning conservation issues. By taking action to ensure wise solutions are implemented.Italicized Text
